Two piece swimsuits first appeared in the United States during World War II when the government ordered a reduction in the material of women's bathing suits as a part of war time rationing. French fashion designed Jacques Heim is credited with the invention of the first true bikini in 1946. Surprisingly that was a string bikini with a g-string back; imagine the controversy that must have exploded. Most early bikinis were somewhat demure, offering plenty of coverage for the bold women wearing them. Since then we've seen an incredible variety of bathing suit design. I think we can all agree that no matter what kind of bikini a girl is wearing it's hot as hell.
